Finished in Eruption Green Metallic, the condition of this 2022 Ford Bronco Everglades is like-new. After purchasing the truck three weeks ago, the owner drove it home and parked it in the garage. It currently has just 75 km (47 mi) on the odometer.
Everglades-exclusive features include the Zeon 10-S Warn winch. Rated for 10,000 pounds, it has a 100-foot synthetic line and is mounted on a Ford Performance Heavy-Duty modular front bumper with a safari bar.
The factory snorkel running up the passenger-side A-pillar has a quick-swap reversible air vent that can be adjusted based on ambient conditions. Additionally, the vent pipes for both axles, the transfer case, and the transmission have been extended to enable 36.4” of water fording – three inches more than the standard Bronco Sasquatch.
The 17” Carbonized Gray alloy wheels are mounted in massive 35” Goodyear Territory mud-terrain rubber with larger fender flares and a feature lifted from the Sasquatch package.
Other off-roading gear includes steel bash plates up front and protecting the engine, transfer case, and fuel tank. Rock rails and individual assist steps are also fitted.
As with all Broncos, the doors and hardtop can be removed. The Everglades model comes with a roof rack and crossbars along with the standard hood-mounted trail sights that double as tie-down points.
Additional features include gloss-black front Bronco lettering, LED headlights with automatic high-beam control, front fender graphics that display the actual Everglades topography, heated side mirrors, and tinted windows.
Tow hooks are fitted front and rear, the swing-out tailgate sports a matching spare wheel and tire, the rear glass can flip up, and a trailer hitch receiver is installed below the rear bumper.
Designed to Get Wet
The cabin features a two-tone Space Gray and Black Onyx design on the seats, dashboard, and door panels. Those seats are water-repellent marine-grade vinyl and are heated up front.Speaking of water, the rubberized flooring can be washed out with a hose and includes drain plugs to that end. Bronco-branded all-season floor mats are also fitted.
The leather-wrapped multi-function steering wheel frames a 180 km/h speedometer and coolant temperature gauge along with a configurable 8” LCD screen. It is currently set to display fuel level, distance to empty, and the tachometer. The digital odometer reads 75 km (47 mi).
The central 12” infotainment touchscreen manages Ford’s SYNC 4 software. Highlights include wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, voice control, navigation, and Wi-Fi hotspot capability.
Driver-aid systems from Ford’s Co-Pilot360 suite include Pre-Collision Assist with Automated Emergency Braking, Lane Keeping System, Blind Spot Monitoring with Cross-Traffic Alert, Driver Alert, Pedestrian Detection, and Forward Collision Warning.
A set of six upfitter switches with pre-run wires are mounted in the overhead console. LED light bars, anyone!? Other features include remote start with push-button ignition, cruise control, dual-zone automatic climate control, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, and ambient footwell lighting.
A trio of grab handles is located at either end of the dashboard and on the center console. The latter also contains controls for the 4WD system and Goes Over Any Type of Terrain (G.O.A.T) modes that includes Normal, Eco, Sport, Slippery, Mud/Ruts, Sand, and Rock Crawl options.
USB ports are installed for both rows of seating, with a 120V power outlet accessible behind the center console. There are integrated cargo net pockets on all four doors and the front seatbacks, along with a fitted Bronco cargo mat out
Hardcore Off Roader
Mounted up front is the original 2.3L EcoBoost four-cylinder, a turbocharged mill that produces 300 hp and 325 lb-ft ft of torque when running premium fuel. It mates to a 10-speed automatic to spin all four wheels. There is a dual-range transfer case and an automatic 4WD setting controlled via a cabin rotary dial.
The Everglades model features a 4.7:1 final drive ratio, electronic-locking front, and rear axles, and the HOSS 2.0 suspension system with Bilstein position-sensitive dampers. The G.O.A.T. Terrain Management System offers seven different settings to choose from, including Mud/Ruts and Rock Crawl.
When Car and Driver piloted the Bronco Everglades through an expedition in the rugged wilds of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, they noted the enjoyment found in casually cruising through a football-sized field of muddy water.
