Straight Up Stunning
To say this 2003 BMW K1200 RS is in like-new condition is no exaggeration as seen in the gallery. Finished in Alpine White with Oriental Blue accents, the bike has just 205 original miles on it and has lived a life under cover in a heated garage with a battery tender. Aside from a crack on the right rear indicator stalk, there are no blemishes to be found and no history of paint or bodywork. As seen in the gallery, the craftsmanship on this motorcycle is tremendous, a perfect blend of German engineering and Italian-inspired design.
Features include an adjustable windscreen, integrated turn signals, cruise control, heated grips, two-up seating, rear parcel rack along with center and side stands. Mounted to the top triple clamp, the handlebars feature turn signal, lighting, cruise control and heating switches. Instrumentation consists of a fuel-level gauge, 180-mph speedometer with inset odometer, 11,000-rpm tachometer and coolant temperature dial.
The aluminum frame features a Telelever suspension up front and adjustable monoshock out back that is mounted to a Paralever swingarm, which also contains the driveshaft. This is one highly engineered bike. Five-spoke 17” alloy wheels are mounted in Michelin rubber sized 120/70 up front and 180/55 out back. Featuring ABS, the brakes consist of a four-piston caliper clamping twin front discs measuring 12.6”, and 2-piston caliper clamping a single rear disc that measures 11.2”.
All the Power
This K1200RS is fitted with its original water-cooled, DOHC 1,171 cc four-cylinder engine that made 130 horsepower when new, which translates to 2.97 pounds/hp. It features Bosch Motronic ignition and a six-speed transmission that routes power to the rear wheel via enclosed driveshaft. Brembo brakes provide the bike with impressive stopping power. The four-into-one exhaust is mounted on the left and, like the rest of the bike, mechanical appearance and overall condition is impressive.
Upon purchase eight years ago, the owner had the tires and fluids changed. In 2019, the fluids were changed again, the brake system was flushed and a new battery was installed at MAX BMW Motorcycles in New Hampshire. There are no mechanical issues with the bike and all service records under current ownership will be included with the sale as will the factory tool roll.
Tribute to the Marque
Located in Weston, Massachusetts, the current owner purchased this 2003 BMW K1200 RS in May 2014 from a motorcycle collector with a host of like-new bikes. It was purchased with 144 miles and since then, the owner has added only 61 more, resulting in the factory-fresh and all-original condition documented in the gallery.
Always stored in a heated garage with a cover and battery tender, this beautiful BMW sport touring motorcycle features the final evolution of the longitudinally-mounted K series engine. As the seller notes, it is a tribute to the marque known for its prowess as an incredibly comfortable long-distance runner. It comes with a lifetime of enthusiast care, making it all but a brand-new bike for the next owner.
