Long and Low
Thanks to the lack of a B-pillar and four windows that go all the way down, these 560SECs seem impossibly long and look great doing it. Today’s example is finished in Black Pearl Metallic (199) with gray lower cladding and looks quite good overall.
A handful of stone chips and faded paint can be seen in the gallery, along with a scratch on the passenger-side front fender. There are also two minor spots of corrosion documented on that side, one below the front turn signal and the other along the leading edge of the rear wheel well. Per the owner, there is no history of paint or bodywork.
Brightwork looks to be in good shape on the front bumper, window surrounds, and belt line moldings. It also sets off the front end nicely with the grille surround and three-pointed star.
Features include headlamp wipers, integrated fog lamps, and twin exhaust outlets. Lighting lenses all look clear and crack-free, including the distinctive fluted tails. Per the owner, one of the fog lamps is currently not working.
This 560SEC rides on a set of 15” Gullideckel alloys that show fading but are in otherwise good condition. They are wrapped in recently installed Bridgestone rubber sized 205/65.
The undercarriage condition is thoroughly documented and looks to be in generally good condition, with surface rust highlighted.
Room with a View
The 2+2 cabin features gray leather upholstery on the seats with perforated centers. Front seats are heated with power adjustability and memory settings. Both look to be in solid shape, with wear noted on the outer bolster on the driver-side. Staining on the rear seats can be seen in the gallery.
Gray extends to the dashboard, door panels, and carpeting with burl wood trim splitting the dash, accenting the doors, and inlaid on the center stack and console.
Wrapped in black leather, the four-spoke steering wheel with airbag frames a set of analog VDO instrumentation including a 260 km/h speedometer with an inset odometer reading of 139,827 km (86,884 mi) and a combination 7,000-rpm tachometer with inset clock.
There is also a combination gauge for coolant temperature, fuel level, oil pressure, and instant fuel economy. Indicator lights and a digital ambient temperature readout run along the bottom.
Features include power windows and locks, cruise control, a power tilt-and-slide sunroof shown operating in the gallery, automatic climate control, fold-down center armrests front and back, and an aftermarket Sony stereo with CD player. The original Becker Grand Prix unit will accompany the sale.
Both doors look to be in very good shape, with frame conditions noted in the gallery. The same is true of the carpeted trunk that includes a fitted mat.
Noted issues include cracks in the center console wood veneer and seatbelt presenters that are currently disconnected but believed to be operational. Additionally, the headliner is sagging, particularly around the C-pillars, and needs to be refitted. The owner notes that the headliner is new, and the poor installation was performed just before his purchase.
Strong Runner
Mounted up front is the original fuel-injected 5.5L M117 V8, the largest displacement motor offered during W126 production that was rated for 238 hp and 287 lb-ft of torque when new. Paired with a four-speed automatic, it spins the rear wheels with a limited-slip differential.
The current owner has used this 560SEC as his daily driver during the summer months with no issues and notes that it runs and drives well with no leaks.
Recent service includes a new starter, air-conditioning recharge, fresh tires all around, and new fluid and accumulators for the Self Leveling Suspension systems. Maintenance records going back approximately seven years will accompany the sale.
Not to Be Missed
Located in Ancaster, Ontario, this 1987 Mercedes-Benz 560SEC has been with the current and fifth owner for the past year. In that time, 2,000 of the original 139,827 km (86,884 mi) have been added.
Slipping under the radar with classic low-key Benz style, this C126 blends elegance with power and that signature brand of Mercedes luxury. Becoming ever harder to get a hold of in clean, unmodified condition, this top-spec 560SEC is not to be missed.
