Porsche GT Silver Metallic
There’s a reason this 1973 Karmann Ghia looks brand new – it practically is. As part of the two-year restoration project, the car was stripped to bare metal, and the body was restored by a master craftsman with little to no body filler.
The finish, which has not been color-sanded or buffed, consists of a primer, Porsche GT Silver Metallic paint, and a clear coat, all from Glasurit. To say the result is gorgeous would be an understatement.
Brightwork on the bumpers and headlight surrounds shows a deep shine, the headlight lenses are clear, and the satin-finished side mirrors are a nice touch.
New VW seals have been fitted all around, including on the hood, door pillars and doors, all windows, and front turn signals. Additionally, new outside scrapers and VW red-and-white taillight lenses have been installed, the latter with new seals.
The car rides on a new set of 15” EMPI GT-8 VW wheels with a 4 x 130 bolt pattern. Finished in silver with polished lips, they are mounted in Kumho Ecsta rubber sized 205/50 all around. As part of the restoration, four-corner disc brakes were fitted with red-finished calipers up front.
Other exterior highlights include a passenger-side Karman Ghia fender badge in mint condition and a very clean undercarriage that highlights the new Fatboy exhaust and muffler installed during the restoration. Per the owner, there is no rust present.
The Seat Envy is Strong
The black cabin on this 1973 Karmann Ghia is as clean as it is simple. Reclining steel tubular-frame racing buckets, upholstered in black leatherette and stitching with yellow accents, look sharp. They have retractable three-point lap and shoulder seatbelts with cable sleeves.
A Grant Rally GT 13” steering wheel with a 3” dish, black anodized spokes, and molded polyurethane grip has been fitted. It frames VDO instruments, including a 120-mph speedometer with an inset odometer, combination clock, and fuel level gauge.
The black dash looks to be in good shape and features a silver central fascia running the full width with the original switchgear intact. The radio panel is blanked off, and the central Karmann Ghia badge is missing.
As part of the restoration, new floor panels were fitted, along with custom carpeting and rear compartment panels. New door panels were also installed, along with new door check rods.
Other highlights include hand-crank windows, a floor-mounted shifter, and a new VW Off-White perforated vinyl headliner. The front trunk condition beneath the carpeting is illustrated in the gallery.
Per the owner, there are a few more details on the cabin that need to be finished. Wiring is already in place should the next owner wish to install a stereo and alarm system.

Simply Stunning
Located in Los Angeles, California, this 1973 Volkswagen Karmann Ghia coupe has been under current ownership for the past three years. Since the completion of the 2-year restoration, just 625 miles have been added to the new motor. There are only 37,550 total miles on the car itself.
The recipient of a serious restoration effort that turned out an absolute stunner of a Karmann Ghia, this little air-cooled coupe is sure to leave its next caretaker grinning from ear to ear.
