Ravishing in Red
The recipient of a full restoration that was completed in September 2020, this 1967 BMW R60/2 is spectacular. Finished in China Red with white pinstriping and shimmering bright work, the tremendous level of care that went into refurbishing this bike is on display with the condition of every nut, bolt, gasket, and surface.
Housed in the headlight bucket is the original 120-mph VDO speedometer that has been refurbished and could be a display piece in its own right. The inset odometer shows 12,384 miles. Featuring a center cross-brace, the chrome handlebar is mounted on pullback risers. It features a Bumm mirror and Magura grips.
Front suspension consists of a triangular Earles fork, with dual shocks mounted to the swingarm out back. The wire wheels, with chrome spokes, sport aluminum shouldered Akront rims and are mounted in IRC Grand High Speed rubber measuring 3 ½ x 18 inches. Braking is handled by drums front and rear.
The 4 ½ gallon gas tank, with white pinstripes and rubber knee bolsters, features a locking storage compartment behind the left bolster. It houses the original tool roll and a BMW-branded shop rag. Other highlights include the Denfeld solo saddle, black luggage rack, hinged rear fender, and stainless-steel mufflers.
As you would expect from an R60/2 in this condition, there is no rust present on the bike.
Lovingly Restored
Powered by its original 594 cc air-cooled opposed-twin, the motor on this 1967 R60/2 underwent a freshening equal to the cosmetic work under prior ownership. It consisted of a refurbished crankshaft, replacement pistons and rings, and a cylinder head overhaul.
The engine pairs with a four-speed transmission to spin the rear wheel via enclosed driveshaft and made 30 horsepower when new. Per the seller, there are no known issues with the bike and following break-in, he recommends re-torquing the head bolts and changing the oil.
Happy For a Lifetime
Located in Newfield, New York, this 1967 BMW R60/2 has been with the current owner for the past two years. In that time, there have been no miles added to the 12,384 indicated on the odometer. It is a triple numbers-matching bike, with serial number 1812555 seen on the headstock plate, frame and engine case stampings in the gallery.
Accompanying the sale is the factory tool kit, BMW-branded shop rag, onboard tire pump, owner’s manual, and clean Oklahoma title. The following correspondence between the current owner and BMW Classic Center in Munich illustrates further detail on this beauty:
Dear Mr. Greener,

Yours sincerely,

According to a period ad for the BMW Slash 2, “If you want to be happy for a day, drink. If you want to be happy for a year, marry. If you want to be happy for a lifetime, ride a BMW.” In showroom condition, today’s 1967 R60/2 is poised to deliver this promise to its next steward.
