Amazing Proportions and Presence
Featuring a high-quality repaint in correct Candyapple Red, the 7-Litre is accented by correct White pin stripe accents that highlight the Galaxie’s sculpted bodylines to great effect. Bumpers and bright metal trim are correct and attractive, as are the “7-Litre” badges. A White convertible top provides excellent contrast to the paint and a Red boot cover and correct factory mag-style full wheel covers provide finishing touches.
Spacious and Sporting Interior
Featuring sporty, yet supportive, bucket seats up front, the spacious Galaxie 500 interior includes a long Red floor console with a tachometer up front and usefully sized storage compartment. A courtesy light at the rear of the console carries a futuristic look that is clear to grown-up children of the 1950s to the 1970s. The Red interior upholstery, console, and dash appear original and carefully maintained and quite lightly used. Amenities include power steering, power brakes, air conditioning, power door locks, and power window lifts. A floor shifter and spoked wood-rim steering wheel complete this 7-Litre’s decidedly sporting purpose.
Beautifully and Correctly Presented Throughout
The 428 PI engine and engine compartment appear to have been carefully and correctly restored, featuring factory colors, finishes, and components throughout. Delivering 345 horsepower with an open-element air cleaner and throaty dual exhaust system, power is delivered through a stout Ford C6 3-speed automatic transmission and factory 9-inch rear axle housing. Suspension, and brakes are of correct factory specification and appear well maintained, as does the solid underbody of the Galaxie.
Extremely Rare as 1 of as Few as 200 Produced
Inside the passenger compartment, lap belts are in place. The Galaxie’s huge trunk compartment is fully carpeted per factory specification and the full-size spare wheel/tire combination resides underneath a correct carpeted cover. A factory jacking instruction sticker remains in place on the underside of the trunk lid. A Ford “Rotunda” box for the factory seat belt kit is also found inside the trunk, along with other items.
Rare when new and far more so today, this “1 of 2,368” Galaxie 500 7-Litre Convertible is a rare and exceedingly interesting example of Ford Motor Company’s world-beating “Total Performance” racing and marketing campaign of the 1960s – a bold, glorious era that will most likely never be repeated. This 7-Litre Convertible is captivating throughout and stands as a wonderful exemplar of uniquely American full-size performance. Rarer still as 1 of as few as an estimated 200 examples produced with factory air conditioning and power windows, it is immensely collectible and enjoyable on every level.
